Student Wellbeing

At St Michael’s Primary School, we believe in fostering the development of positive relationships through a welcoming, caring and nurturing environment through:

Social Emotional Learning

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is about learning how to manage feelings, manage friendships and solve problems. These are essential life skills that support wellbeing and positive mental health. Social and emotional skills promote children’s ability to cope with difficulties and help to prevent mental health problems. Children who have developed social and emotional skills find it easier to manage themselves, relate to others, resolve conflict, and feel positive about themselves and the world around them.

Components of SEL include:

  • Self awareness: understanding feelings, confidence
  • Social awareness: respecting & understanding others, appreciating differences
  • Self management: managing emotions, setting goals & sticking to themBounce Back
  • Responsible decision making: choosing wisely and thoughtfully
  • Relationship skills: cooperating, communicating, making friends
At St Michael's we implement the Bounce Back program.  This is a whole school social and emotional learning program that is evidence based and supported by research.  The program is supported by different learning activities that cater for a range of learning needs and styles.
