Winter Lightning Premiership Games

13 June 2019 | General Interest

Setting off on their winter Lightning Premiership and netball gala day events on Tuesday 11 June, Grade 5 and 6 students had a very full and rewarding day.  They were fortunate with the weather on the day of competition and all participants and spectators thoroughly enjoyed an exciting day.

Girls Lightning Premier soccer team won the first three games, drew the fourth and lost the fifth. They went into the finals against Mary MacKillop but after a great game, were defeated. Apart from having a lot of fun, every girl was involved and displayed great team spirit and sportsmanship.

The AFL team had a very successful day also, winning all 3 of their games!! The first game's result was 90 - 0, second game's result was 111-0 and the third game's result was 120 - 1. Our boys showed great sportsmanship throughout the day and are looking forward to representing St Michael's in the divisional competition at a later date!!!

Girls WLP netball team played really well and won 4 of their five games, losing the 5th in a nail biter by just one goal. They went on to play the same team in the finals, narrowly missing out on going on to division by just 2 goals. The girls showed a lot of heart as they gave it their all throughout the entire day. They demonstrated great netball skills, wonderful fitness and amazing sportsmanship. Everything they did they did for the team. Well done girls!

Boys soccer team played some excellent football, demonstrating great skills and fantastic passages of play. Their team spirit was really inspiring, and although they didn’t win all their games (they were very close in most), they showed great comradery and enjoyed representing their school. It was a pleasure to watch them all day! Well done boys!

Children at the mixed netball gala netball day had a great day with many of the students trying out different positions on the court that they’d never had a chance at playing before.  Team spirits were high and the games resulted in two St Michael’s teams coming 1st (in different divisions) and one coming 2nd.  Congratulations to all the teams.
